About Jo Manion


Dr. Jo Manion is a nationally recognized speaker, an award-winning author and senior management consultant, who offers an impressive breadth of experience combined with practical and creative approaches to organizational and professional issues. Her most recent work has involved working with organizations and individuals engaged in creating effective cultural change, expanding leadership capacity and transforming organizational workplaces. Her focus is on creating positive, healthy work environments with high level employee engagement.

As founder and principal consultant for Manion & Associates, her extensive experience in health care and business results in a practical and down-to-earth approach to the many challenges we face today. She has worked widely in the area of leadership development and serves as a coach for both individuals and organizations.

Dr. Manion has published extensively, including authoring eight books. The third edition of the award-winning From Management to Leadership: Transforming the Health Care Environment will be released in April, 2011 and is widely used as a resource for both established and aspiring leaders. The Engaged Workforce: Proven Strategies to Build a Positive Health Care Workplace was released in 2009 and has received a five-star rating from Doodys. It presents evidence-based strategies for creating a workplace that attracts and engages people. Additionally she has written books on intrapreneurship and innovation in health care and building a team-based health care organization. Dr. Manion co-authored Nature's Wisdom in the Workplace: Managing Energy in Today's Health Care Organization with Sharon Cox and Diane Miller. This dynamic book presents a millennium-old model of energy and applies the principles of energy management to common, contemporary leadership and organizational challenges.

Dr. Manion has engaged and challenged audiences around the country and internationally since the early 1990s. Growing up in the Midwest, her undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Marycrest College and the University of Iowa. She also has a Master's degree and a Doctorate in Human & Organizational Development from the Fielding Institute. Dr. Manion has been elected as a member of the American Academy of Nursing.

Since 1984, she and her husband have made their home in the central Florida area. She is a devoted doggie mama to Silky Terrier Pippi, alpha dog extraordinaire, and Griffin, a fiesty Welsh terrier!
